The Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery is a subspecialty ophthalmology training program designed to develop advanced expertise in the medical and surgical management of retinal and vitreous disorders. Delivered over 2 years through hospital-based clinical training, the program combines structured academic instruction with supervised surgical and clinical practice in vitreoretinal services. It emphasizes competencies in management of retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases, vitreous hemorrhage, and complex retinal surgeries, alongside research and quality improvement training, preparing graduates to provide highly specialized vitreoretinal care within Rwanda’s health system and beyond.
