The PhD in Clinical Anatomy (By Coursework and Research) is a full-time doctoral programme designed to develop highly qualified clinical anatomists, researchers, and educators with advanced knowledge and skills in anatomical sciences. The programme combines advanced coursework with supervised independent research to prepare graduates for leadership in academia, biomedical research, and healthcare.

The curriculum includes advanced studies in human anatomy, microscopic anatomy, embryology, neurosciences, anatomy technologies, research methodology, biostatistics, and emerging innovations in anatomy education and research. This is followed by original doctoral research culminating in a thesis and oral defence.

Graduates are equipped for careers as university academics, clinical anatomists, biomedical researchers, medical educators, and research leaders in universities, research institutions, healthcare organizations, and related sectors.

Entry Requirements

  • Master in Medicine holders in Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Radiology
  • Senior residents in surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Radiology
  • Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy
  • Master of Science in Health sciences with strong anatomy content
  • They must satisfy common university requirements for Masters Degrees at the University of Rwanda.

Ideal Student Profile

Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Human Anatomy, Anatomical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine (MD/MBBS/MBChB), Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, or another closely related health or life science discipline from a recognized institution. Candidates should demonstrate strong research potential, scientific curiosity, and a commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning.
